Redknapp plans January raid for Portsmouth players
New Spurs' boss Harry Redknapp has hinted that he will make a raid for a number of Portsmouth players in January. Striker Jermain Defoe and midfielder Lassana Diarra are the two principle targets.
'If Portsmouth want to sell some of their players, there's an open market,' Redknapp said. 'They've got some fantastic players there, absolutely top, top players, they really have.'
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie has said that Spurs' will have to break the bank if they want to sign any of the club's players: 'I can't categorically say 'No, we won't sell those players in January'. We might want to sell if someone offers stupid money. But we've proved we are not a selling club. We didn't sell Defoe to Tottenham, they sold him to us.'
Former Tottenham midfielder Tim Sherwood has also confirmed that he is considering an offer from Redknapp to become part of the Spurs' backroom team.
