Rafa's Euro double date

The Europa League is shaping up to be almost as exciting as the Champions League this year, in what is proving to be a vintage year for European competition. Last night Liverpool swept aside Benfica 4-1 in the quarter final second leg at Anfield, easily overturning the 2-1 deficit they held from the first leg thanks to goals from Lucas, Kuyt and Torres, and they could now conceivably meet Fulham in an all-English final.

The Cottagers beat Wolfsburg 1-0 away to cement their place in a semi-final against Hamburg, who are fighting for the chance to win the Europa League at their home ground this season. It’s all very enjoyable indeed.

‘It was a good game and because the other team was very good you can say four goals was a fantastic performance, but I think we have played better this season,’ said Rafael Benitez, who is also looking to get his team back into the Champions League next season. ‘Any win is important, especially at this stage of a competition. If we can get to the final and win the final we will be very pleased.

‘We have two targets now and we will try to do both. We will try to win every game, starting by trying to beat Fulham on Sunday. Hopefully we can play well, score goals, get closer to the top four and get to the final.’
