Quinlan to miss Lions tour through suspension
Munster flanker Alan Quinlan has been handed a 12 week ban for eye-gouging and will now miss the Lions Tour to South Africa in the summer. The offence took place during the Heineken Cup semi-final loss to Leinster on May 2.
The three-man disciplinary panel met this afternoon in Dublin and decided that Quinlan was guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct when he made contact with Leinster captain Leo Cullen's eyes. While the Munster flanker has the right to appeal the decision next week, it looks as if it will be too late as the Lions play their opening game on May 30.
Quinlan's ban opens the door for another player to join the Lions squad with England's Tom Croft and Welsh captain Ryan Jones favourites to get the call from coach Ian McGeechan.
