After rumours linking them to everyone from Del Piero to Zidane QPR have actually signed a former Serie A legend: Damiano Tommasi. The 34-year-old former Roma and Italy midfielder has arrived on a season-long deal from Spanish team Levante.
Rangers manager Iain Dowie has hailed the signing of Tommasi: "The signing of Damiano adds great experience to the squad," said Dowie. "He has played at the highest level for club and country, and to have a player of that calibre available can only be good for QPR. We've got some fantastic young talent in the squad and training with someone of Damiano's stature will be of huge benefit to them. In the short term, he could prove to be very useful to us."
A cult hero for Roma fans, Tommasi is also known as a philanthropist having accepted the Italian minimum wage of €1500 a month after suffering a serious injury at Roma. It's a shrewd signing of player with over ten year's experience in Serie A and La Liga.
