Portsmouth to sell Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid
Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra looks set to join join Spanish giants Real Madrid during the January transfer window. The two clubs have reached an agreement over a transfer fee reported to be somewhere in the region of £24m.
The move will be something of a windfall for the cash-strapped south coast side who signed the 23-year-old French international from Arsenal for £5m less than a year ago.
While Portsmouth fans will be reluctant to see Diarra leave, the big money offer is a footballing no-brainer. A spokesman for Pompey told reporters:"We have always said we would only allow our players to leave if we received an exceptional bid. We could not stand in the way of a move such as this for Lassana." The deal should give Tony Adams the funds needed to find an able replacement.
