Portsmouth recorded their first win in nine matches this afternoon beating a lacklustre Manchester City side 2-0 at Fratton Park. Glen Johnson and Hermann Hreidarsson got the all important goals to ease Pompey's relegation fears.
City again underlined why they have managed to win away from home only once all season with yet another disjointed performance which will heap even further pressure on Mark Hughes. Despite starring in Brazil's 2-0 win over Italy midweek both Robinho and Elano struggled to make an impression on the game.
The game's moment of class came from Portsmouth and England right back Glen Johnson who produced a mazy run and tidy finish twenty minutes from time. Hermann Hreidarsson made sure of the points five minutes later with an unstoppable header. The match saw David James make a record breaking appearance in the Premier League, but the Pompey keeper had little to do as City continued to show their blunt edge away from home.
