Portsmouth accept £12m Crouch bid from Sunderland

Sunderland have confirmed that they are in talks with Portsmouth over a possible deal for England striker Peter Crouch. According to ESPN the two clubs have agreed a fee of £12m for the former Liverpool player.

Black Cats manager Steve Bruce spoke to reporters about the club's interest in the 28-year-old: "He is a player I have admired for a very long time and I suppose a lot of managers do exactly the same thing. As we speak at this particular moment, we are in discussions with the club."

Bruce continued: "As far as I am aware - and I've just come off the training ground - we are in discussions with the club and that's as far as it is at the moment. We hope we can try to put something together because he would be the type of player of course that would signal our intention of the way we want to take the football club forward."

While it looks like Crouch will soon be swapping the south coast for the north east, Irish striker Daryl Murphy is in talks with Hull about a possible transfer from the Black Cats to The Tigers.
