Worst Premier League signings 2015

Picking the worst players transferred to the Premier League for the 2014 / 2015 season is often a matter of opinion but we’ve used some basic stats to work out who the real wastes of money were. Our first is Abel Hernández. Hull’s £10 million man had a great start to the season but he has only scored one goal since mid-October.

Calum Chambers has already cost Arsenal £11 million. The London club has a further £5 million to pay his former club Southampton. This guy’s hardly been used in 2015 so let’s hope at 19 years old the best is still to come.

Liverpool’s £20 million man Dejan Lovren was described as “exactly what I’ve been looking for since Jamie Carragher left” by Brendan Rodgers but he made too many errors so he was dropped from Liverpool’s starting line-up.

Newcastle United only paid £6 million for Emanuel Rivière but that’s a lot of money to pay for someone who’s looked far too lightweight for the league this year, and he seems to be playing without any confidence.

Chelsea have money to spend but no club has money to burn. At £23.3 million Juan Cuadrado doesn’t represent great value for money. He only made three starts and eight appearances from the bench but that was enough to earn him a winner’s medal.

Lazar Markovic is another player that Liverpool signed for £20 million. Although he was outstanding at Benfica in the 2013 / 2014 season, playing him as a wing-back hasn’t worked for the Reds.

Man United’s Angel Di María cost £59.7 million which made him the English league’s most expensive player ever. He wasn’t able to live up to that during the 2014 / 2015 season with just 3 goals in 26 appearances.
