Peter Crouch joins Spurs for £9m

Peter Crouch has been reunited with Harry Redknapp for the third time after joining Tottenham from Portsmouth in a deal believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £9m.

The England international, who previously worked with Redknapp at Southampton and Portsmouth, successfully passed a medical yesterday at White Hart Lane before agreeing personal terms to make the switch to North London.

Crouch had looked set to join Sunderland last week for £12m, but the beanpole striker made it clear that he would prefer to remain in the South and pulled out of the move after both Spurs and Fulham declared their interest.

The former Liverpool striker becomes just the latest in a long line of high-profile players to leave debt-ridden Portsmouth following Redknapp's departure in January including Lassana Diarra, Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson.

The arrival of Crouch looks to have sounded the death knell on Darren Bent's unsuccessful spell at White Hart Lane. The former Charlton striker is expected to join Sunderland before the end of this week.
