Patrick Vieira signs for Manchester City

Manchester City have captured the signature of France midfielder Patrick Vieira from Inter Milan. The former Gunners captain is the first player to arrive at Eastlands since Roberto Mancini's arrival last month putting pen to paper on a six-month deal said to be worth £150,000 per week.

The 33-year-old midfielder has struggled with injury over the last few seasons and has been in and out of the Inter first team and had just a few months left on his contract with the Italian giants. However, Vieira is reported to be desperate to play in this summer's World Cup and hopes to secure first team football at City.

Mancini spoke to reporters about the signing: 'Patrick is a world-class midfielder with a winner's mentality and will fit into this group very well. He knows me and my staff well, and importantly he also knows what the Premier League is all about. He will not need much time to settle in.'

'Patrick is one of the great players of his era with every almost every honour in the game against his name. I am sure City fans will welcome him warmly and appreciate the contribution he will make.'
