O'Neill: Gareth Barry may leave Aston Villa
Martin O'Neill will let Gareth Barry leave Aston Villa at the end of the current season if the Birmingham club fail to qualify for the Champions League. Barry almost joined Liverpool during the summer but the £18m deal fell through at the last minute.
Villa are currently in fifth place in the Premier League and go head to head with Liverpool tomorrow in a crucial game which could decide the nature of both club's seasons. But O'Neill has hinted that Villa may cash in on Barry if Liverpool renew their interest in the England midfielder when the transfer window reopens.
"Liverpool could be back in for Gareth," O'Neill said. "If we qualify for the Champions League then, subject to the terms being right, I think he would stay. There's nothing set in stone. That's what he has said himself and the agents have indicated to us. Those are all very big ifs".
