Next July thousands of athletes and millions of spectators will flock to the city they are already calling Olympics London to participate in the oldest competition in the world. The city hosted the games in 1908 and 1948, and 2012 will be the third time that London has worn the Olympics crown.

A staggering 625 million pounds will be spent on the Olympic and Paralympic Games which will be hosted by the five boroughs of Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich.The opening ceremony on July 27 is expected to draw an estimated global audience of four billion, as Olympics London becomes the centre of the world. London’s Olympic Park is situated in the Lower Lea Valley and its size is the equivalent of 357 football pitches. 2000 newts have been relocated from the Olympic Park to the Waterworks Nature Reserve.

Over 7.7 million Olympic Games tickets went on sale for London 2012, which is expected to generate ten billion in revenue for the British economy. Nearly three million people from the construction industry have been employed to help transform the ‘old smoke’ into Olympics London. As a result of building new accommodation for visitors to the London Olympics, as many as 5,000 new homes could be available in the East End following the games.

In the space of just one day, over 8000,000 people, which is more than the entire population of Leeds, will use public transport to travel to the games. 205 nations will compete at the games and approximately 260,000 loaves of bread are expected to be eaten by punters hungry for both sport and substance.
