Not so Serena

Serena Williams has confirmed that she will be out for the rest of the season, after revealing that she had re-torn her the tendon in her foot and undergone a ‘procedure’ to fix it.

Williams, who is the current Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, hasn’t played a match since winning her 13th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon on 3 July thanks to a cut she sustained to her right foot from broken glass at a restaurant.

‘It is with deep frustration that I am withdrawing from the WTA Championships at Doha and the Fed Cup Final,’ said Williams. ‘Pushed by my desire to return to competition, I trained too hard too soon and re-tore the tendon in my foot.

‘As a result, yesterday (Monday) morning I had to have another procedure to repair it. I thank everyone for their continued support during this difficult time and look forward with strength and determination to getting back on the court.
