No apologies

World Champion boxer David 'The Hayemaker' Haye has refused to apologise for his comment that his fight against has-been Audley Harrison will be as ‘one-sided as a gang rape’.

The comment drew a storm of criticism from charities and women’s rights groups but Haye, who is defending his WBA World Heavyweight title against Harrison at the MEN Arena in Manchester on 13 November, was unrepentant, saying on his Twitter page that: ‘if I apologised for every stupid/ignorant thing I said, I wouldn't have time for anything else during the day!’ You could try not saying stupid and ignorant things, David – that might help.

‘Gang rape is a serious and violent crime against humanity leaving the survivor severely traumatised, terrified and violated,’ said Yvonne Traynor, the chief executive of Rape Crisis, to Sky News. ‘For Mr Haye to think that it is acceptable to make this comparison is a serious lack of judgment and intelligence and shows that he neither knows what he is talking about nor who is going to be affected by this tasteless comment.’
