We’re not going to pass comment on why she’s leaving professional tennis. Suffice to say, Martina Hingis – one of the game’s recent greats – will no longer be gracing the world stage. She’s retired at the tender age of just 27 years.

She won Wimbledon at just 16 and remains the youngest world number 1 ever at that age. And she won a further four Grand Slam titles in a glittering spell between 1997 and 1999. She was, at that time, the best thinking tennis player on the planet. She couldn’t out-gun opponents but she could out-think them.

We’re sad to see her go. And we wish her well.
