Ferguson threatens to quit if Ronaldo leaves10:13 Wed 30 July 2008 Sir Alex Ferguson will quit Manchester United if Cristiano Ronaldo is sold to Real Madrid. The startling news comes courtesy of the Spanish newspaper Marca who quote the Scot as saying: "If Ronaldo leaves, I'm going too". Ronaldo's future is still not clear. United insist that the Portugal winger is not for sale while Real Madrid seem confident of bringing him to the Bernabeu. But hopefully Sir Alex's threat to walk out on the Premier League champions will finally bring to an end the tiresome Ronaldo to Madrid saga. Ferguson has been at Manchester United for 22 years, guiding the team to 10 league titles, five FA cups, two Champions League wins and an Intercontinental Cup. Letting him walk away from the club now just to appease Ronaldo would be akin to footballing hara-kiri. |
