Great Britain will field a football team at the 2012 Olympics in London. The chairmen of the British Olympic Association, Lord Moynihan, told the Daily Mail that a British team will take part in the games and it is hoped that Sir Alex Ferguson will be the manager.

The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish football associations, however, oppose the idea of a British team over fears of losing their FIFA status. But Lord Moynihan hinted at the possibility of 11 English players representing Britain if the home associations refuse to play ball.

A British football team last took part in the Olympics back in 1972 and has won gold three times: 1900, 1908 and 1912. But it remains to be seen if the public in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales would openly support a British football team made up of the cream of the home nations' Under 21 talent.
