Shearer and Allardyce linked to Blackburn job15:35 Wed 11 June 2008 Alan Shearer and Sam Allardyce have emerged as joint favourites to replace Mark Hughes at Blackburn Rovers after the Welshman moved to Manchester City. Blackburn chairman John Williams has contacted both candidates to inform them that they head the board's shortlist. Former player and title winner Shearer is the popular choice amongst fans although The Daily Telegraph has reported that the former England international is not convinced if it's the right job for him. Currently working as a BBC pundit Shearer may be reluctant to step into the cauldron of football management.
Sam Allardyce is the next favourite for the job although MK Dons manager Paul Ince is also being considered for the vacancy. Speaking to The Guardian Williams said: "It's important after Graeme Souness and Mark Hughes that we now make it three successful appointments in a row. " |
