Capello names Terry England captain15:14 Tue 27 May 2008 Fabio Capello has handed John Terry the captain's armband for Wednesday's friendly against the United States at Wembley. After choosing Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand to lead the side in his previous two games Capello has continued his policy of rotating the captaincy in friendlies. The move comes two months after Capello's veiled criticism of the Chelsea skipper's conduct on and off the field. Terry also captained England during Steve McLaren's disastrous tenure. But the new England boss said that he was in no doubt of Terry's leadership qualities, underlining their importance to the England team. Capello's decision should give Terry the chance to move on from his now infamous slip and botched penalty attempt in the Champions League final last Wednesday. But doubts still remain about the Chelsea skipper's temperament, with accusations that he spat on United's Carlos Tevez during the scuffle which led to Drogba's dismissal in Moscow doing the rounds. Also Terry's decision to take a penalty last Wednesday, while brave, was extremely foolhardy. If England win a penalty tomorrow night lets hope the captain leaves it for someone else to take. Did John Terry spit at Tevez? |
