Champions League fallout: Drogba looks set to leave Chelsea13:26 Fri 23 May 2008 The fallout over Chelsea's Champions League defeat in Moscow on Wednesday looks set to continue with rumours of a summer clear out on the way.
According to reports £24m man Didier Drogba has been told he can leave the club with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon sniffing around Palermo's Drogbaesque striker Amauri. Avram Grant's future as Chelsea manager also seems in doubt with the Israeli likely to return to his position as director of football. The nomadic Nicolas Anelka is another player whose Chelsea future is in doubt following comments made in the aftermath of his decisive penalty miss on Wednesday. Anelka criticised Avram Grant's refusal to play him as a central striker and the lack of opportunities offered to him since his £15million move from Bolton in January. The French striker also claims that he had refused to be one of the first five penalty takers because he felt that he wasn't warmed up, having come on in the 99th minute. Funny that, as it didn't seem to be a problem for either Belletti and Anderson who both came on in extra-time and scored in the penalty shootout. Chelsea skipper John Terry was distraught after missing the spot-kick that would have seen him lift the Champions League trophy and it would be hard not to feel a bit sorry for his misfortune. On the other hand it's difficult not to enjoy the delicious schadenfreude of the viral emails which immortalise his famous miss. Check them out here. |
