United take on Barcelona for a place in the Champions League final10:36 Tue 29 April 2008 Manchester United host Barcelona tonight at Old Trafford in the return leg of the Champions League semi-final. There's still all to play for following the 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp. Both Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic are doubtful for United while Barcelona's talismanic captain Carlos Puyol is back from suspension.
While United will be hoping that home advantage will see them through, the omens are not good: United have never made reached a European Cup Final via a second leg at Old Trafford, failing in 1957, 1966, 1969 and 1997. A score tonight would see Alex Ferguson's team, although unbeaten in Europe all season, dumped out of the Champions League with Barcelona progressing on the away goals rule. But Barcelona's domestic form has been far from impressive this year. They are currently lying 14 points behind Real Madrid in the league going down 2-0 to Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday. But any team containing Eto'o, Messi and Henry is sure to provide a goalscoring threat. With the title race back on following Chelsea's 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and tonight's Champions League decider, these are nervous times for United. Barcelona 0 Man Utd 0 |
