Liverpool 1 Chelsea 1: Advantage Chelsea11:11 Wed 23 April 2008 Advantage Chelsea after last night's Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield. Avram Grant now has the the chance to lead the Blues to Moscow and finally put Mourinho's ghost to rest after his side secured a 1-1 draw and a vital away goal. It was all looking so good for Liverpool until John Arne Riise's sensational own goal in the 94th minute.
Liverpool dominated the match but only had Dirk Kuyt's first half strike to show for their efforts. Chelsea keeper Petr Cech was in great form pulling off a string of saves to keep the score at 1-0. With the game entering the fifth minute of injury time, Solomon Kalou whipped in a cross from the left in the direction of Nicolas Anelka only for the Riise to stoop low and head the ball past a helpless Reina in the Liverpool goal. There have been some great own goals over then years but Risse's will be remembered for a long time if Liverpool can't turn the tie around next week at Stamford Bridge. And the omens aren't good for Benitez's team. They haven't managed to hit the back of the net in eight visits to the Bridge since the Spaniard took over only picking up one victory there in 19 years.
