New Liverpool owners to battle council

Prospective new Liverpool owners New England Sports Ventures could be heading for a battle with the local council after it was revealed that they would consider redeveloping Anfield should they gain control of the club from Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

According to The Guardian the putting aside of £100million for a new stadium had been part of the deal, and the leader of Liverpool City Council Joe Anderson has warned that a change of tac on a new ground would most likely not get approval.

‘I would discourage them (NESV) from redeveloping Anfield and would encourage them to stick to the commitment that is already in place because I think that is the best solution for everyone,’ said Anderson. ‘For the club and the city.’
