Nadal beats Murray in straight sets at Wimbledon
Andy Murray crashed out of Wimbledon 2008 yesterday after being beaten in straight sets by Rafael Nadal. The British No1 was no match for the Spaniard who was in no mood to appease the hopes of the home crowd, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
The 20-year-old Scot had hoped that yesterday would be a turning point in a career that has been hampered by injury and failure to perform in Grand Slam events. The defeat brings an end to British involvement in the competition but Murray at least took a step into the unknown this week by reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the first time.
World No1 Roger Federer demolished Mario Ancic 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 and it looks ever more likely that Wimbledon will host its third consecutive Federer-Nadal final. The Spaniard will be looking to end Federer's five year domination of the world's most prestigious grass court tournament.
