Murray out of US Open

Anyone who knows anything about tennis has said it’s a case of “when”, not “if” Andy Murray will win his first Grand Slam tennis tournament. Well sadly it won’t be the US Open 2009 after the Scot was knocked out by Marin Cilic.

The fourth round defeat saw 2nd seed Murray display a below par performance thanks to a series of mistakes, allowing 16th seed Cilic to comfortably romp home with a straight sets 7-5 6-2 6-2 win.

Murray, who played with a bandage on his wrist throughout the match said he was “very disappointed” with the defeat; "Regardless of my wrist, I lost the match, I returned poorly. He served well and that was really the difference."

Marin Cilic plays Juan Martin Del Potro in the quarters next while Team Murray will have to wait till next year to win their first Gran Slam.
