Mikael Silvestre joins Arsenal from Manchester United
Mikael Silvestre has become the first player to move from Manchester United to Arsenal in 34 years after he joined the north London club for an undisclosed fee last night. The 31-year-old French international had been linked with a move to Bordeaux, but yesterday he decided to join the Gunners instead.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, highlighted the experience that Silvestre will bring to the London side's squad. The former Rennes and Inter Milan defender won four Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup in his nine years at Manchester United.
Silvestre can play both at left-back and centre-half and will bring some much needed maturity to a talented yet inexperienced Arsenal side. The French defender will link up with his compatriot William Gallas and Wenger will be hoping that the two veterans can provide the experience needed to challenge for the Premiership.
