Michael Dawson ruled out of Switzerland match

Spurs defender Michael Dawson has been ruled out of England’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old suffered knee ligament damage during England’s 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Friday and will be out of action for at least eight weeks.

‘Following a scan on his knee this morning, Michael Dawson will miss England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland on Tuesday,’ an FA statement said.

‘England and Tottenham Hotspur medical staff were in contact this morning and Dawson has now returned to his club for further treatment.’

Dawson was stretchered off in what was his first start in an England shirt and was replaced by the uncapped Gary Cahill.

Fabio Capello will not call up a replacement to the squad which suggests that Cahill will line out alongside Everton's Phil Jagielka at the heart of England's defence.
