Mexico ban Vela for six months

Carlos Vela and Efrain Juarez have been given a six-month suspension from international football by the Mexican football federation following an incident in Monterray earlier this month.

According to reports the pair organised a party following Mexico’s 1-0 win over Colombia and were subsequently hit with the six-month ban and a £2,500 fine.

A spokesman for the Mexican football federation commented on the ban: ‘Carlos Vela and Efrain Juarez will be suspended for six months from the date of these events (September 8), for calls for the national team, because there were faults in four sections of the national team rules.’

Spurs’ Giovani dos Santos, West Ham’s Pablo Barrera as well as Guillermo Ochoa, Francisco Rodriguez, Carlos Salcido, Andres Guardado, Gerardo Torrado, Javier Hernandez, Rafael Marquez, Enrique Esqueda and Hector Moreno were also given a £2,500 ban for breaking curfew.
