Martin Jol favourite to become new Fulham manager

Fulham are hopeful that Martin Jol will become their new manager before the weekend after the former Spurs boss hinted that he would be willing to walk away from Ajax and take over at Craven Cottage.

Representatives for the Premier League club will meet with Jol in Sweden where Ajax are currently on a pre-season tour. Fulham hope to have a new manager in place for Thursday’s friendly with Halmstad.

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson had been favourite to replace Roy Hodgson but it has now been revealed that Jol is Fulham’s preferred candidate. The two parties are reported to have held talks last weekend with the 54-year-old keen on a return to the Premier League.

Jol’s imminent arrival Fulham is likely to be welcomed by the club’s fans. Although he was fired by Spurs back in 2007 he had lead the club to its second top five finish in a row earlier that year.

The former Hamburg manager took over at Ajax last season but is reported to be unhappy with the Dutch club’s lack of transfer funds as well as its willingness to sell on its most talented players.
