Mark Webber claims victory in German Grand Prix
Mark Webber claimed his first ever Formula 1 victory this afternoon at the German Grand Prix in the Nürburgring. The 32-year-old Australian finished 9.3 seconds ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel in what was a dream race for the Red Bull team.
Webber, starting on pole position for the first time during his eight year career, is now third in the driver's championship on 45.5 points behind leader Jenson Button who finished the race in a disappointing fifth place.
Last year's champion Lewis Hamilton finished in last place after a first lap collision with the eventual winner which resulted in the McClaren driver heading to the pits early to repair a puncture.
Webber now believes that the championship has been thrown wide open: "There's no doubt about it, [the drivers' and constructors' championships] are both up for grabs," the Red Bull driver said. "We're taking the fight to the big guys, who will be back. But it is a special time for our team, that's for sure."
