Maria Sharapova makes Wimbledon final

Maria Sharapova reached her first Wimbledon final in seven years this afternoon, after beating Sabine Lisicki in straight sets.

Sharapova beat the German 6-4, 6-3 after a nervy start (she was 0-3 down the first set) to reach the final for the first time since 2004, when she won the title as a 17-year-old. She will face the Czech Petra Kvitova.

'It's amazing to be back in the final, it's been a while,' she said afterwards. 'I'm really happy, even through I didn't play my best tennis today. She played really well in the first few games and I did quite the opposite - but I remained really focused.

'I haven't gone past the fourth round here for a few years, but I still feel I have more to do. Kvitova is a great player on grass and is playing really good tennis - it'll be a tough match, but I'm looking forward to it.'
