Diego Maradona is set to be unveiled as the new Argentina coach according to the Argentine Football Association. The 1986 World Cup winning captain will take over from Alfio Basile who resigned last week.
The 47-year old former Napoli player has limited coaching experience but will be a popular choice with both fans and players. Argentina have struggled with form in their World Cup qualifiers and are currently lying third in the South American Zone.
Maradona is under no illusions about the difficulties of the task at hand: "The road to the World Cup is not easy, but I believe in the Argentinian players. Everybody wants to play at the World Cup but we must show our traditions and our style on the field."
