Mancini hails City

Roberto Mancini has hailed his Manchester City players after they secured fourth spot, and a place in the Champions League, after beating Tottenham last night.

The Sky Blues beat Spurs 1-0 at Eastlands thanks to a Peter Crouch own goal to guarantee themselves a place in next year’s competition, although they will have to negotiate the last qualifying round before making the group stages. This could throw up a tricky team, although the chances are City will spend an absolute packet in the summer and wallop whoever it is they face.

‘I'm very happy because, after many years, Manchester City can now play in the Champions League,’ Mancini said. ‘This was always our target.

‘When I arrived here, I said that City would become one of the top two or three teams in Europe. This is the first time we have qualified and we deserve it because we have been at the top all season.’
