Manchester United make £28m offer for Berbatov

Manchester United are reported to have a agreed a club-record £28m deal with Spurs for Dimitar Berbatov. Sir Alex Ferguson finally made a move over the weekend for the Bulgarian striker after months of speculation.

According to The Daily Mail, Berbatov was intent on moving to Spain or Italy with Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan all reported to be interested. However, only Manchester United have made a concrete offer for the striker whose arrival should help fill the gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz is being lined up to replace Berbatov at White Heart Lane and the money earned from the 27-year-old Bulgarian's transfer would allow Tottenham to pursue their interest in Zenit St Petersburg and Russia midfielder Andrei Arshavin.
