Manchester United hammer Chelsea 3-0

Manchester United hammered Chelsea 3-0 this afternoon at Old Trafford to move within five points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson's team silenced any lingering doubts about their title credentials and have two games in hand over title contenders Chelsea and Liverpool.

Nemanja Vidic opened the scoring for United in the first-half when put an injury time header past Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal. Despite the Blues creating good chances from midfield through Deco, Lampard and Ballack they went two down when Rooney beat Ashley Cole to an Evra cross for the left.

Scolari chose to leave Nicolas Anelka on the bench, but the French striker replaced Deco at half-time and Chelsea enjoyed more possession in the second 45 minutes. But both Drogba and Anelka appeared to have left their shooting boots at home as the Blues failed to hit the target.

Berbatov scored late on from a Ronaldo free-kick to put some extra gloss on the win. Jose Mourinho's attendance at the game only served as a reminder of how good his Chelsea team were and how Scolari's have yet failed to match them.
