Manchester United deny making Sneijder bid

Manchester United have denied reports that they made a bid for the Holland and Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the current United squad is strong enough to challenge for trophies even if there are no new arrivals.

‘I believe the squad is stronger than last season with the younger players having another year under their belts,’ Ferguson said. ‘I don't know where those reports about Sneijder came from. How can anybody turn me down when I haven't even made a bid?’

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti told reporters that United had bid for Sneijder but made it clear that he had no plans to sell the 26-year-old playmaker.

Ferguson also rubbished reports linking United with a move for German midfielder Mesut Ozil who was one of the stars of the World Cup.
