Manchester United beat Newcastle 2-1

Manchester United came from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James' Park last night. The win moves Sir Alex Ferguson's side seven points ahead of Chelsea with a game in hand.

Peter Lövenkrands gave the Magpies a shock lead on nine minutes when he tapped into an empty net after Edwin van der Sar could only parry a Gutierrez shot. Newcastle almost went 2-0 up through Obafemi Martins, but the Nigerian striker steered his shot into the side netting.

Normal service was resumed on twenty-minutes when a powerful John O'Shea run and pass gave Wayne Rooney the time and space to crash a swerving shot past Steve Harper in the Newcastle goal.

The Toon defence imploded after the break when Collocini steered a back pass straight into the path of Park who played in Berbatov to score and give United the three points.
