Manchester United beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League. Roque Santa Cruz became the first player to score against United for 1,334 minutes when he dribbled round Kuszczak to level the score for Blackburn late in the first half.
Wayne Rooney had put United ahead on 23 minutes when he got on the end of a Nani cross. Blackburn almost took the lead early in the second half when Ryan Nelson's shot came back off the post, but it was the Red Devils who had the last laugh.
Keith Andrews fouled Patrice Evra on the edge of the box and Cristiano Ronaldo produced one of his trademark free-kicks to seal the three points for United. Paul Robinson took one step too many in anticipation of a cross, but the Portugal winger fired a thunderbolt into the top right-hand corner.
