Manchester United 5 Portsmouth 0

Manchester United moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a 5-0 thumping of relegation certainties Portsmouth at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The away side kept United at bay for 40 minutes until Wayne Rooney scored his 23rd goal of the season. Portsmouth's resistance crumbled at that point and the floodgates opened.

Nani added a second before half time when his deflected shot beat David James in the Portsmouth goal. Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov added a goal apiece in the second before the luckless Marc Wilson fired into his own net late on.

United are now back on top of the table and the five goals have also seen them better Chelsea's goal difference.
