Manchester United 4 Hull City 0

Manchester United moved back to the top of the Premier League last night following a 4-0 thumping of Hull City at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney again proved the difference on the day scoring all four goals.

The England striker, who has bagged 19 goals in 21 league matches so far this season, has all but kept United in the title race single handed. In contrast, Michael Owen endured another disappointing afternoon and has now failed to score in 13 Premier League starts.

Rooney opened the scoring on eight minutes when he capitalized on a mistake from Boaz Myhill. Hull's hero in the 0-0 draw with Spurs last weekend spilled a Scholes shot from 25-yards allowing Rooney to score. Things got even worse for The Tigers' keeper on 82 minutes when he failed to hold a Nani free-kick. Again Rooney was on hand to take advantage.

Even with Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick rested the result never looked in doubt. Rooney headed home his third goal from a Nani cross before substitute Berbatov set him up for his fourth at the death.

The game was marked by a number of empty seats at Old Trafford and the fans that were at the game spent most of the 90 minutes voicing their disapproval of the Glazer family. However, on the pitch United fans can at least be safe in the knowledge that they have a player of the calibre of Wayne Rooney fighting their corner.
