Manchester City delivered on some of the hype surrounding their £200 million take over and the arrival of Brazilian star Robinho with a stunning 6-0 win over Portsmouth at Eastlands yesterday.
New boys Jo and Robinho were on song for City getting a goal a piece and tormenting the Pompey defence with every touch of the ball. With Steven Ireland pulling the strings in midfield and Micah Richards and Richard Dunne anchoring the defence City looked like a team that could challenge for a Champions League place.
Shaun Wright Phillips was also outstanding and scored his third goal in four games since rejoining City from Chelsea. The England winger looks like a player reborn and if his current form continues he will surely catch Fabio Capello's eye. Youngsters Ched Evans and Gelson Fernandes completed the rout on a day that David James, Sol Cambell and Sylvain Distin will want to forget in a hurry.
