Manchester City beat a beleaguered Newcastle 2-1 at Eastlands tonight with goals from Shaun Wright-Phillips and new signing Craig Bellamy. Brazilian forward Robinho, who hit the headlines earlier today for all of the wrong reasons, was instrumental in securing a vital three points for Mark Hughes' side.
The Brazilian, who has patched up his differences with City after walking out of training last week, laid on the first goal for England winger Wright-Phillips while Bellamy, a £10m signing from West Ham, conjured up a neat turn and finish to score on his début.
The three points sees City climb up to the mid-table while Newcastle are caught in a dogfight of a relegation battle. Things could get even worse for the Toon with club stalwart Shay Given set to leave to join City according to reports.
