Managers think I'm mad

Alan Pardew isn’t going to have the easiest time on the bench as the Newcastle United manager: he’s replacing a popular manager who was sacked for seemingly very little reason, to a club that is already suspicious of Londoners, and has taken a massive 5-year contract in the process. It’s easy to see why fans are upset, frankly.

However Pardew, who has admitted that he too was unsure about the position when he was offered it, has made conciliatory noises about wanting to embrace Newcastle and their PASSION for football, and said that he simply couldn’t turn down a job at one of the top five biggest clubs in the country. The man sure knows how to do PR, doesn’t he?

‘I would be lying if I said I did not have some hesitation when I was travelling up,’ he said. ‘I would be foolish to say it was not a concern. They have had five managers in the short time the owner has been here, but I genuinely believe I can do the job and they will stand beside me. It is a town I'm not familiar with, I make no bones about that. But I want to embrace it and their love for the game. I will move to the town and hopefully stay here a long time.

‘I've had a lot of texts from other managers saying I must be mad coming here because of the tough agenda and the history of the ownership with managers, but it's a huge club. It's one of the top five clubs in the country. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I had not taken this challenge on.’
