Sir Alex Ferguson and his army of wind-kickers booked a place in the final of the Carling Cup last night after beating Derby County.
Although Man U were convincing, their victory was perhaps a hollow one after adding to their list of injuries with Anderson, Neville, Nani, Evans and Rafael all limping off before time.
Nigel Clough’s team carried a 1-0 lead into the game but it took no more than 34 minutes before Nani, O’Shea and Tevez crushed Derby’s hopes of picking up some silverware. The hotly tipped Giles Barnes was The Rams star player scoring both from the penalty spot and with a wonderful 20 yard free-kick but it was too little too late. Ronaldo’s late goal added to their defeat.
The Champions have a heavy schedule of games continuing with Tottenham in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round.
