Man City bid for Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson

Manchester City look set to get over their 3-1 loss to Manchester United last night in the Carling Cup semi-final with a spot of retail therapy. The Premier League's richest club are reported to have made an official bid for Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson.

The 22-year-old, who is valued at £6.5m by the Teeside club, has also turned the head of Wolves and Chelsea after a string of good performances in the role previously occupied at the Riverside by Stewart Downing.

With Boro looking unlikely to bounce straight back into the Premier League Johnson may be tempted by a move to City who despite last night's loss appear to be heading in the right direction.
