Liverpool hammer Sunderland 3-0

Liverpool hammered Sunderland 3-0 this afternoon to move into fifth place in the Premier League. Fernando Torres was the hero on the day with a world class brace.

The Reds dominated the game from start to finish but the Anfield crowd only had to wait three minutes for the opening goal. Torres collected a long kick out from Jose Reina before launching an unstoppable swerving shot from the edge of box past Craig Gordon in the Sunderland goal.

Glen Johnson doubled Liverpool’s lead on 32 minutes when he latched onto a misdirected header from Darren Bent following a Steven Gerrard corner to fire home thanks to a deflection off Michael Turner.

The England right-back was instrumental in Liverpool’s third goal on 60 minutes underlining his attacking prowess with a clever feint before laying the ball onto the unmarked Torres. The Spain international produced another exquisite finish lifting the ball over Gordon to seal a much needed win.
