Liverpool kept the pressure up on their close title rivals Manchester United with a 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Anfield. The result led a bullish Rafa Benitez to declare that defending champions Manchester United are now "under pressure" in the title run in.
The on fire Fernando Torres scored a first half brace before Daniel Agger and David Ngog added two late goals. Blackburn huffed and puffed, but Sam Allardyce's decision to play 6ft 5in centre-half Christopher Samba up front ahead of the out of favour Benni McCarthy backfired dramatically.
The result will have helped the Reds to bounce back from the midweek disappointment of defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League. With Europe's top prize now looking beyond their reach, Liverpool are at least still in the hunt for the league title.
