Liverpool draw 1-1 with Manchester City
Liverpool's title hopes suffered another serious dent this afternoon following their 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Anfield. City went ahead through a deflected shot from Craig Bellamy on 51 minutes before Dirk Kuyt levelled matters 12 minutes before the end.
Rafa Benitez's side were without midfield generals Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard through suspension and injury respectively and it showed as Vincent Kompany and Nigel de Jong controlled the middle of the park for City.
Stephen Ireland thought he had put City 2-0 up when he finished off a sweeping counter-attack but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside. The result leaves Liverpool seven points behind Manchester United and could have all but ended their slim title hopes.
