Liverpool are reported to have made a £20m offer for Spurs striker Robbie Keane after the Reds attempts to sign Aston Villa midfielder, Gareth Barry, encountered difficulties. Tottenham had claimed that the Republic of Ireland captain wasn't for sale, but yesterday Juande Ramos said that the London club would have to consider Liverpool's offer.
With Peter Crouch having left the Merseyside club for Portsmouth, Liverpool have focused their efforts on signing another striker. Keane ticks all the boxes and Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool boss, has made it clear that he wants to pair Ireland's top scorer up front with Fernando Torres next season.
Keane's strike partner at Spurs, Dimitar Berbatov, also looks set to leave despite the London club claiming that he is not for sale. Manchester United are reported to have tabled a £20m bid for the Bulgarian with Barcelona also said to have entered the race for his signature.
