Liverpool bounce back against United

Liverpool answered their critics this afternoon with a 2-0 win over Manchester United in a pulsating match at Anfield. The victory will have relieved some of the recent pressure on the under fire Reds manager Rafa Benitez.

Fernando Torres overcame his recent injury problems to start the game but the Spain international was once again a thorn in the side of the United rearguard opening the scoring on 65 minutes. El Nino collected a Benayoun pass before holding off Rio Ferdinand and hammering the ball past Edwin van der Sar at the near post.

Liverpool dominated the game despite the absence of talismanic captain Steven Gerrard and should have taken the lead in the first half when Lucas played Dirk Kuyt in on goal only for the Holland striker to drag his shot wide of the post.

The ill-tempered clash saw both teams finish with ten players each after Nemanja Vidic and Javier Mascherano were sent off late on. David Ngog sealed a famous win for Liverpool when he scored on the break in injury time.
